You know you found a great game when…

I was having a bit of a stressful week. Things were happening in our lives and I just didn’t have the energy to ask Jack to work on Matific Galaxy for this review. We had worked on the program a lot in weeks past, so I had a pretty good understanding of how it worked and my opinion on it.

Our weekly goal for Matific Galaxy is to use it for 45 minutes a week, which is really not a lot. I assumed we would maybe reach 30 minutes but did not expect more than that.

But then I got received an email with the weekly report…

Clearly, Jack has been motivated to play Matific Galaxy without my encouragement!

He absolutely loves the different puzzle style math games that merge his love for puzzles and video games in one place!

What Is Matific Galaxy?

We were given the opportunity to try out a single-grade, 1-year access for Matific Galaxy. I thought my 8 year old would benefit from this program the most, so I signed him up. Matific Galaxy can be used on iOS, Android as well as computer.

We have been using the computer for our learning fun.

This fun and interactive program encourages children to develop their math skills while having fun through a wide variety of different levels. The game is based around a fun story – the evil villain steals the pixels from the creatures of the different planets. It is up to you to restore their pixels by completing the different levels. Once you have restored their pixels, you can then continue to play those levels, again and again, to win coins, accessories and gifts for the different characters.

Jack loves being able to win the different accessories and will continue playing levels over and over again to get all the accessories that he wants!

Meet Jung Jung. This is Jack’s favourite creature. He has been able to get him a guitar, necklace, sunglasses and a cool pet!

Amazing Learning Tool

On the Matific Galaxy website, you can see a list of all the skills that are covered for each grade level. As you can see, this is a very extensive program and covers a lot of topics.

Each skill is presented in an assortment of different games. I cannot even begin to explain all the different games as there is such an assortment. We really love this variety.

I have included many screenshots of the games throughout this review to show some of the different games, but you can also try out the app for free if you want to try it for yourself!

The games are challenging but not overwhelming, which is a hard balance to achieve but Matific Galaxy has done well. Even my 10 year old will join in on some of the games and has fun playing with his younger brother (I think he wants his own account).

As your student progresses, they are also able to win trophies for their progress.

Parent Zone

The Parent Zone is a great resource on this program. Matific Galaxy will analyze your child’s performance and shows you their strongest subjects and areas that could use more practice. Surprisingly, one of Jack’s strongest subjects is multiplication. When he feels pressure, he stumbles with multiplication even though he knows it well. Stress and multiplication do not interact well for him – which is why our unschooling approach is so beneficial to him. He has received a mark 80% correct for his multiplication on Matific Galaxy so, clearly, he is not feeling stressed while playing!

You can also see recent activities your child has been working on and the percentage of the game completed.

My favourite part of the parent zone – being able to send inspirational and motivational messages to your kids. With sayings like “You’re progressing in leaps and bounds, simply AMAZING” or “Just want to let you know you’re doing GREAT”, it is fun to be able to send them mail through the game.
