School’s Out! It is summer and we are excited for warmer weather and new adventures. We just had our unschooling year-end meeting and are officially done!
The school year has come to an end. Homeschoolers now need to share our parks and our libraries with the rest of the world.
We live in a province that requires us, as homeschoolers, to report to a school board. The school board holds us accountable for the government and makes sure we are educating our children.
This year was an interesting year.
We started the year with a new facilitator. Our facilitator from last year left the school board to pursue a masters degree. Then halfway through this year, only a few weeks after our midyear meeting, we received word that our new facilitator had left the school board as well.
Going into our final meeting, I was feeling stressed. The meeting was with the principal of the school, a person I had never met. I was worried about how he would handle our unschooling approach, especially since he did not get an opportunity to meet my children multiple times throughout the year to witness their growth.
In the end, our meeting went really well. Our unschooling year end is always interesting, but the faculty change up made this year extra special.
The principal was very receptive to our unschooling approach to learning and appreciated that learning never stops in our home.
