Supercharged Science is an online science program created by Aurora Lipper. E-Science Homeschool Science Curriculum is a fun way to learn science!
Aurora Lipper has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in Mathematics and a senior project in Rocket Science), and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. She was also one of the youngest instructors in the engineering department at Cal Poly State University. Aurora’s background definitely shows in the videos that she makes on the Supercharged Science website. She is a well-educated woman whose love for science is apparent as we worked through this website.
Aurora designed Supercharged Science to provide science education to families and educators that was fun and exciting, and it definitely delivers on that! If you are looking for a homeschool science program, this is definitely a program to look into!
Supercharged Science
The Supercharged Science website can be navigated by topic or by grade level. Since I am working with multiple grade levels, and take a child-led approach to education, we decided to approach this website through the topics.

As you can see, this program contains a lot of information and could be beneficial for any level of homeschool science you are looking to supplement. It covers a wide variety of topics and those listed above are just the units! Each unit is divided into different sections which include lessons, experiments, and exercises or work pages.

As you can see, this is a very extensive program for homeschool science. We were able to explore the site and find different topics that appealed to all of my different children.
There are also teaching resources available which helps you to make the most of your homeschool science experience. The six keys for teaching homeschool science is definitely a resource of the Supercharged Science website that any home educator should take advantage of.

Homeschool Science
Are you interested to see how we, as unschoolers, used this program for homeschool science?
As I do with all new programs, I gave the website a thorough peruse before letting my children loose on it. I like to be able to direct them to certain areas that will enhance their learning experience and allow them to navigate the website better.
Scientific Journal
I am always looking for new and exciting ways to encourage my children to write more. Supercharged Science has a whole page that is dedicated to making a scientific journal in a professional manner.
I knew that my children would love making their own scientific journal. They often take notes and draw pictures to go with the different experiments they try. Before this, we had never introduced the concept of a formal scientific journal. I am happy to say that both my 8-year-old and my 10-year-old now have their own scientific journals. They are excited to pack their notebooks full of information and experiments.
A perfect place to get started was with the scientific journals. Every good scientist records all the details of their experiments and therefore we needed to as well. If they were be going to be doing experiments, why not set up a scientific journal for them to track everything they wanted to try.
And we certainly had a lot of science experiments to try…
Science Experiments
There are many different experiments that you can do on Supercharged Science.
Full-force Cereal
Unit 1 introduces us to mechanics. Mechanics is the study of the motion of objects. It starts with an introduction to mechanics and then is subdivided into force, gravity and friction.
After watching the videos and doing the readings, we were excited to move onto the experiments.
There were many different experiments to test force. From detecting gravitational fields to making a paperclip fly, we had a hard time agreeing on what experiments to try. Our decisions mostly came down to materials we had on hand – like cereal and water.
The Full-force Cereal experiment demonstrated magnetic attraction. The neat thing is that it uses something as simple breakfast cereal. We have noticed how cereal tends to group together but never really thought about why. This homeschool science experiment shows and explains the magnetic forces surrounding everything and how they impact each other.
The magnetic field is shown by attracting the pieces of cereal together. As we separated the cereal pieces they would drift to other pieces. At a certain distance, the magnetic field is not strong enough to attract the pieces of cereal together.
Testing Gravity
The second experiment we did was also from the mechanics unit. This experiment is “A Weighty Issue” and from the gravity section.
We performed a similar experiment in the past but this time we needed to repeat it with more balls and using our scientific journal. We used 6 different balls, and one stuffed tomato, to test gravity and see if the balls would fall at the same time.
With this experiment, we took inspiration from the worksheets provided by Supercharged Science. Instead of printing out the sheet, we just copied a similar chart into our scientific journal.
We were able to compare all the different balls together. We dropped two balls and noted which one landed first. It was a lot of fun. We tried dropping balls from different heights to see if that changed the results.

Other experiments from the gravity unit include Rocketry & Spaceflight, Forever Falling, and Fast Ball. There are so many wonderful experiments that we just did not have time to complete all of them! We will continue to work through these experiments over the coming months.
Fish Dissection
The last experiment I am sharing in this review, was the favourite of my children even though we did not get to do the actual experiment.
My eldest two children are very interested in life science and biology. They were able to work through all the videos in both life science sections as well as the biology sections. One of the experiments that they really want to do is a fish dissection.
To learn all that they could, they watched all the videos and did the readings for this section. There are also work pages with questions about the content they are learning. You can either print these out or just follow them on the website. There is also an answer key.
In the summer, we go to our family cottage. The goal for this summer is to catch a fish and to follow along with the dissection on the fish they caught themselves.
They followed along the dissection experiment video even though they did not have a fish to dissect.
This is a perfect example to show of how well done this website is done. Even though we were not able to complete the experiment, it was still engaging enough to watch.
