Is your child struggling to learn to read? Dyslexia Gold is a program designed to help them improve their reading and spelling skills.

Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure to work with and review the Dyslexia Gold Full Bundle. This program, by Dyslexia Gold, is designed to help people improve their reading and spelling skills.

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disability which can make it hard to read, write, and spell. Dyslexia does not mean your child’s ability to learn is below average, they might just need a different approach to learning. If your child is struggling to learn to read, it might be worth looking into and having a conversation with your family doctor about.

The Dyslexia Gold website does have a screening test which might help you better understand the challenges your child is facing. Learn more about the signs of dyslexia here.

Struggling to Learn to Read

My child does not have diagnosed dyslexia.

The screening test suggested that he may have dyslexia. He is struggling to learn to read but is also still quite young. Because of our schooling approach, we do not feel the need to rush him. We will take our time and proceed in a way that will be as beneficial as possible. There are lots of resources available. We will be working with our family doctor and school board to make sure he receives the support he needs.

We are not sure whether a diagnosis is needed or whether he just needs more time. Reading is not something that happens overnight and many children are struggling to learn to read, without any learning disabilities. Take your time and be patient with your child. Pressure will not help them. Make the learning environment fun and engaging to create the best possible outcome.

This is why we like Dyslexia Gold, because my child has FUN while using the program.

How To Use Dyslexia Gold

It is recommended that you use this program every day for best results.

There are 4 different sections of the Dyslexia Gold program – Engaging Eyes, Fluency Builder, Spelling Tutor, and Times Table Tutor. Because of the age of my child with whom I am using this program, we focused on the first two.

We did not use this program daily. Due to circumstances out of our control during this review period, mainly the death of two beloved family members, we did the best we could. We used it as frequently as possible and will continue to use this program as I have already seen the benefit of it.

Engaging Eyes

Poor eye tracking can make fast, fluent reading very difficult.

The Engaging Eyes series of games is designed to help through vision training. These games are recommended for just 10 minutes every day and, in our experience, really help those struggling to learn to read.

Being able to track letters and words across a page is so important. Since using this program, we have already noticed a big improvement. His scores on the game are improving but also his ability to follow along with visual cues has improved.

Target Practice

My son’s favourite part of the Engaging Eye section of Dyslexia gold is the Target Practice game. He frequently asked to play this game and was sometimes disappointed when his time was up (the program will let you know when you have played for 10 minutes).

Using the 3D glasses that come with the program, you move the shooter in the middle to be able to hit the targets around the outside. Not only do you have to aim it at the correct target, but you also have to align it forward and backwards so that you do not shoot above or below your target.

When we first started this program, my son had a hard time seeing in 3D. He struggled to get past the first stage. With practice, he now routinely makes it to the 5th or 6th stage each time he plays.

Whack an Alien

He also really enjoys the Whack an Alien game. This game is designed to get the eyes moving across the screen. He has been able to triple his score since he first started playing this game.

Another game that he enjoys is a letter tracking game. Random letters move linearly across the screen and you press the spacebar every time you see a certain letter. This game helps with letter recognition but also eye movement. Depending on the letter, my child sometimes struggles with this game. But it is amazing to watch as his skills improve.

Fluency Builder

Fluency Builder is a series of lessons that focus on more traditional reading skills. Each lesson consists of many different games and focuses on specific letter sounds.

The image above is a screenshot of a game where you have to match the letter sounds. Does the ‘e” in the word ‘pen’ have the same sound as ‘hen’ or ’emu’? What about ‘evil’?

This game is the one that I have noticed the most dramatic improvement in my child’s reading skills. When we started using Dyslexia Gold, he had a very hard time understanding what letter sounds were. Now, he is able to complete this with upwards of 80-90% accuracy.

There are many other games. Some of the games include putting letter tiles in the correct order to spell words, changing the beginning, middle, or end of a word to change the word, and flash card style reading. There are more games as well, those are just a few!

One thing that I really like about the Fluency Builder section of Dyslexia Gold, is that you can go back and repeat lessons. We had worked our way through 15 lessons and found that my son was starting to struggle. It was no longer fun when he was struggling. So instead of pushing forward, we went back and started again at lesson one. This is not only building his confidence but reinforcing what he has worked on previously.

Try Dyslexia Gold for Yourself!

If your child is struggling to learn to read, I would highly recommend looking into Dyslexia Gold.

Even though we have not been able to use it as consistently as the company recommends, we are still seeing improvements in my child’s reading ability. I am truly seeing the benefit for my child and I hope that it can be a resource that helps you as well.
